The Nutri-Tech Commitment
We are passionately committed to improving soil quality in this country. The first barrier in achieving this goal is often related to convincing you, the grower, that a change is even necessary. Many of you are already aware that something is amiss, but others are not so sure. The old cliche "Knowledge is Power" is relevant here. The "power" in agriculture relates to control over ones destiny. If you know what's happening and why it is happening, then you are empowered to do something about it. We pledge to continue our information-sharing policy and provide help and advice through newspaper articles and via our website.
Nutri-Tech Solutions Pty Ltd was established in June, 1994, with the aim of improving nutrition from the soil up. It was always intended that soil and plant nutrition would be the first priority before moving on to develop animal and human health products.
We never imagined that we would spend the first seven years developing programs and products for the soil and plants alone but this is, perhaps, a reflection of the sheer number, complexity and diversity of problems we have identified during our research. In 2001, over two hundred products later, we finally began to look at animal and human health. By Mid-2005, we had developed over 300 products including some exciting animal and human health options.
We continue to develop our emphasis on education, which is currently showcased with our four-day NTS Certificate in Sustainable Agriculture course, and numerous national and international one day courses. These education services will expand online in the near future.
There are currently over a dozen quality animal products in the range, and over 20 human health products including remarkable, proactive supplements.
We have termed our approach ‘Nutrition Farming'® and this concept may eventually be utilised as a marketing umbrella for growers seeking a genuine alternative to organics. Organics involves a long list of what you cannot do, while 'Nutrition Farming'® is all about what you can do to produce highly nutritious, medicinal food for the consumer. ‘Nutrition Farming'® is a desperately important game plan for the improvement of our health and wellbeing in Century 21 - it is the sustainable production of nutrient-dense food for the protection and sustenance of all who consume it.

LifeForce Base Blend
A do-it-yourself, living fertiliser, to restore productive life to unproductive soils. Based on a combination of minerals, humates and microbes that are spread out in layers and then pushed up into a pile before addition of freshly brewed Nutri-Life 4/20 microbes. The pile is then reworked and left sitting for two weeks.
This blend provides three microbe-supportive, natural fertilisers, which serve as a home base and breeding medium for an inoculum of task specific microbes. Soft rock phosphate, Nutri-Mate Organic Humates and paramagnetic basalt are combined prior to an inoculation of Nutri-Life 4/20 (a blend of beneficial microbes).
The synergy between these four components involves the following: The insoluble calcium, phosphate and trace elements in soft rock phosphate and the water-retaining clay that this material comprises, act as a food and home base for the microbes, which, in turn, solubilise the phosphate component. The organic carbon in the humates also houses the beneficials, which solubilise the insoluble humic acid found in the humates. Finally, the paramagnetism of the basalt facilitates more vigorous cell division of microbes, which, in turn, solubilise the insoluble minerals in the basalt. The end result is a living fertiliser, which has proven tremendously effective in the field.
The Life-Force® Blend can be supplied in its component parts for the manufacture of an inexpensive D.I.Y fertiliser, or it can be supplied in a pre-blended form.

Deepwater NSW 2003 Trial
Scott Macansh of Deepwater Station, Deepwater, employed a field monitoring service (Agricultural Information & Monitoring Services, Guyra) to measure and assess the benefits of cell grazing sheep and cattle. 2-Mile paddock was selected as the trial site, and was divided into two 14 hectare sites, 2M1W and 2M1E. Each paddock is stocked at 3000 DSE for 1-2 days, then rested for 40 - 80 days. Each December a soil test is taken along permanent transects in each paddock, and each December and May vegetation is assessed for % coverage, basal density and plant biodiversity.
During the first two years both paddocks had no fertilisers added, but in 2003, Scott decided to trial an application of LifeForce Base Blend on 2M1W with some optional extras to help maximise the effect based on a soil test (see below).
LifeForce Base Blend.....................250kg/ha Lime........................................ 150kg/ha Gypsum.....................................100kg/ha Ammonium Sulfate.......................30kg/ha Zinc Sulfate Monohydrate...............5kg/ha Borax........................................5kg/ha Copper......................................5kg/ha During the year Scott could see no visible differences between the two sites, but was pleasantly surprised when the December 2003 soil tests came back.
Minerally, there was an overall improvement in the LifeForce Base Blend trial site (2M1W) compared to the Control (2M1E), and when also compared against past soil tests for 2002 and 2001, where soil samples from both paddocks had been combined, the LifeForce trial indicated substantial increases in zinc, potassium, calcium, organic matter and the CEC (see * in Table 1), and to a lesser extent pH, phosphorus, sulfur and iron (see bold in Table 1). And these results were then backed up with a recorded 30% increase in pasture biomass.

Graman NSW 2004 Trial
Jim and Judy Hain of Burmah, Graman, decided to trial some LifeForce Base Blend blend on a poor performing pasture paddock beside the house, and as with Deepwater Station, no visual differences were noted during the year, but the same trends in their mineral analysis are showing up again a year later, with substantial increases in zinc, potassium, calcium and the CEC, but this time an increase in phosphate was also substantial.

Nutri-Phos Guano (Granules)
Fossilised seabird droppings offer a combination of soluble and slow-release phosphate in combination with dense mineralisation. Available in powdered or granular form.
NTS Guano G1 contains 12% phosphorus, which will not lock up and become insoluble. It also contains 25 - 30% calcium and good trace element levels, including 5200 ppm of zinc. NTS Guano Granules G1 is an excellent option for inclusion in planting blends as a proportion of the phosphate component is citrate-soluble.
NTS Guano Granules G2 contains 11% phosphorus, which will not lock up and become insoluble. It also contains 20 - 25% calcium and good trace element levels, including 3170 ppm of zinc.
Reactive rock phosphate can take two years to release its phosphorus load, and in alkaline soils it will never become plant-available. Nutri-Phos Guano, by contrast, combines rapid-release characteristics with a controlled release pattern, to ensure adequate phosphate supply throughout the season.
Benefits

VAM-Tech
VAM-Tech contains Vesicular Arbuscular Mycorrhiza (VAM) fungi that grow as fine filaments which attach to the plant roots forming a pipe-life network, effectively extending the original root coverage by several hundred percent. This filament system retains and delivers moisture and nutrients supplied to the fungi by the plant. The host plant produces a larger root structure in response to promoting compounds excreted by the fungi which are attempting to increase the available surface area to which they can attach. VAM are capable of extending the nutrient scavenging capacity of the plant on a purely physical basis, but they also release compounds which dissolve the elements prone for forming insoluble compounds - phosphorus and zinc are primary examples. VAM improve soil structure through the release of organic glues that bind the soil particles into aggregates forming a highly desirable crumb structure.

SweetSure - Xylitol Sweetener

It is naturally found in berries, plums and birch trees and is also produced in our own bodies. Xylitol is as sweet as sugar and can be used at equivalent rates in cooking, cereals, beverages and desserts. Unlike sugar, Xylitol supports rather than stresses the pancreas and does not promote tooth decay. In fact, Xylitol reduces plaque formation and can kill the germs that cause bad breath. Xylitol has also been shown to inhibit the bacteria responsible for inner-ear and sinus infections.
Over consumption of sugar is now considered to be a major cause of obesity and it is the principle root cause of the upcoming plague of diabetes. Xylitol is virtually the reverse image of sugar, involving a Glycemic Index of just 7, versus 70 for sugar. It contains 40% less calories and 75% less carbohydrates but most importantly, it does not exhaust the pancreas via of production of insulin, like sugar does. Pancreatic exhaustion is implicated in a variety of degenerative diseases.
- Reduces Carbohydrate Cravings
- Free from aspartame
- Does not support tooth plaque or Candida
- Freshens breath
- Features a health-supporting, low Glycemic Index
- Does not stress the pancreas
- Non-Addictive (Unlike sugar)
Use at equivalent rates to sugar.

NTS Soil pH and Moisture Meter

Soil pH is a big player in crop production because it has so much impact on nutrient uptake and biological activity.
A nutrient availability chart clearly demonstrates that most minerals have highest availability in soils with a pH of 6.4. In more acidic soils a whole range of nutrients become less available and the same applies in alkaline soils.Beneficial micro-organisms are also most active and productiveat a pH of 6.4.
If you can simply monitor the pH throughout your block whenever you like, then there can be considerable gains from correcting the pH when you discover problem areas.
The NTS Soil pH and Moisture MeterTM features a brass probe attached to a measurement screen. The meter is simply plugged into the soil to a depth of around 4 inches andit provides an immediate and accurate measure of soil pH. With the flick of a switch it can also provide a measure of moisture levels in the soil. pH Moisture Meter 15/05/2008,10:48 815.94 Kb

NTS Budget pH Meter
Soil pH governs nutrient availability while the pH of foliar sprays affects growth vs. reproductive response (chemical performance is also pH dependent). A waterproof meter to monitor this information is invaluable. The pH of tank mixtures also impacts on the effectiveness of any foliar applied material such as fertilisers, fungicides, pesticides, herbicides and trace elements. The pH of irrigation water is also very important. The ideal pH level for a foliar spray solution is between 6.0-8.0, whereas for many herbicides it is below 6. Unfortunately these newsletters are only available by email download, so please contact me and I will happily forward them on - they really are a treasure trove of information about soils and their links to animal/human health. Copies of other articles on individual products etc are also availabe on request, and there is now an article blog which now makes up future Nutrition Rule newsletters.
NTS Certificate in Sustainability
This is one of a handful of courses that I strongly recommend to those wanting to understand biological farming. It covers all aspects of a healthy foodweb, starting with the soil through to human health, and while it has a commercial focus between sessions, the educational program is purely that - educational. It helps you understand how and why things work and walks through the wide range of generic ingredients used in most biological fertilisers. After attending this course you are in the enviable position of being able to speak the same language as a biological salesman and challenge them to provide to your needs, not theirs!
I have had many people attend the course, and not one has left disappointed. It can be truly life changing for many.
