35 patients have completed 6 months on Rejuvenator XtraHealth to 30 April 2008. Patients continue to be recruited and blood results collated. The focus of the trial is on the following blood parameters:
* Liver function - ALT, AST GGT ALP levels
* Kidney Fuction - eGFR (Glomerular Filtration Rate), creatinine and urea levels
* Homocysteine levels
* Cholesterol levels - total cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL and LDL
* Fasting Blood Glucose levels
* Zinc levels - determined by zinc taste test, red cell zinc and serum zinc
* Iron stores - serum iron, ferritin, transferrin saturation, total iron binding capacity
Liver Function Tests
86% of patients achieved improvement in liver function. Nine patients with medical diagnosed liver disease (Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, fatty liver), with abnormal baseline Liver Function Tests achieved improvement in their liver enzyme profile, with at least 3 of the 4 liver enzymes returning to normal range.
One of the 5 patients who failed to show continued improvement in liver function was diagnosed with acute Ross River Viral Infection at the time of the 6-month review. Two of the 30 patients showing improved liver function did so while undergoing chemotherapy between baseline and 6-month follow-up.
Blood Sugar Levels
77% of patients showed reduction in blood glucose levels. One patient diagnosed with NIDDM for 2 years continued to show normal range blood sugar levels at the 6-month review, depite commencing on prednisone during the same time period. Of the 10 patients diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes who completed the 6-months on Rejuvenator, all patients showed improvement in blood sugar levels to within normal reference ranges.
Serum Cholesterol
74% of patients showed a reduction in total cholesterol. 77% showed a reduction in triglyceride levels. One young female recruit with exceptionally low cholesterol on initial baseline (2.6 mmol/l) entered the normal range at the 6-month mark.
Iron Stores
There was no statistically significant change in iron stores, except in the 3 patients on the trial with medically diagnosed Haemochromatosis (excess iron storage disease). All 3 patients normalised iron stores, including transferrin saturation, without requiring their scheduled venesection.
Zinc Levels
Zinc results were only available for 20 of the 35 recruits. 74% showed improvement in zinc levels, the largest increments in patients with the lowest zinc baseline levels.
Homocysteine Levels
No statistically significant changes shown in homocysteine levels from baseline, but 3 patients with homocysteine levels above 15 mmol/l normalised homocysteine levels below 9 umol/l by 6-months.
Conclusion
This product shows a positive impact in significant parameters of diabetic health, namely:
* blood sugar levels
* serum cholesterol
* serum triglycerides
* improvement in renal function
There is no adverse effect on iron levels known to be a problem with other nutritional supplements.
